NYC Junior Pipeline Support Engineer

We apply these principles to our work on some of the most VFX intensive film and television projects out there.

We are currently seeking a combined role of Junior Pipeline Developer and Junior System Administrator in our New York City studio who will be responsible with assisting in the overall efficiency of the facility-wide production pipeline through programming and working on some day-to-day IT tasks. They will develop and support tools that help digital artists with their daily use of both third party and in-house software and systems.  This position reports to the Pipeline Managers and Head of Engineering.  This is a full time freelance position that could evolve into a full time position in the future.

Developer Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Pipeline teams in Los Angeles and Vancouver in order to develop, integrate, and support tools that facilitate the flow of work between production departments
  • Create and deploy production software and pipeline-related tools for the different disciplines involved in the VFX pipeline
  • Develop Python or MEL scripts for various tools for the departments
  • Write end-user and developer documentation for developed tools
  • Train and support artists to use the developed tools
  • Complete tasks within the time frame given by Supervisors

IT Responsibilities:

  • Take direction and anticipate needs
  • Perform assigned tasks with particular attention to detail
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software and peripheral devices
  • Install various production software packages
  • Setup and configure employee workstations
  • Manage employee account creation
  • Monitor disk space usage for projects
  • Write and update documentation
  • Keep Engineering work and storage spaces clean and organized
  • Keep inventory of all equipment
  • Assemble and disassemble computers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Computer Visualization, or VFX required
  • Strong software development skills
  • Experience writing code in Python (preferred), C++, or C#
  • Experience in procedural and object-oriented programming
  • Experience in creating GUIs (PySide or PyQt a plus)
  • Experience using revision control systems such as SVN, Perforce, or GIT
  • Some familiarity with visual effects software such as Maya, Nuke, Houdini, or Blender
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work independently on projects without supervision
  • Proactive team member with positive 'can do!' attitude even in high pressure situations
  • Ability to work extended evening and weekend hours to meet production needs when needed
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds

*Must be able to work onsite at New York location. Candidates currently residing in New York a plus as we do not cover relocation/housing.
