At this time, we’re pleased to offer this role as an option to work from home OR work from our Vancouver studio in the beautiful Gastown area, close to the Waterfront Station in Downtown. (Remote is not available outside of BC; there is no hybrid)

Summary of Position
The Sr Character FX Artist constructs and executes simulations to animate the hair, cloth, skin, and muscles of 3D character assets, including humans, animals, creatures, etc. This position takes the lead on finding approaches to optimize setups for creative and production purposes. 

Job Functions 

  • Produce cloth and hair simulations, prop animations, and refine shot animations throughout production.  
  • Interpret creative direction to enhance the artistic direction of the film.   
  • Develop streamlined workflows and tools for CFX setups.   
  • Strategically reassess task methodologies to enhance workflow efficiency.  
  • Creatively resolve challenges to align with shot-specific artistic vision, and identify any issues related to object penetration and intersection.   
  • Master all relevant departmental software tools, proposing enhancements and optimizations as needed.  
  • Maintain schedules and deadlines and ensure all shot and asset targets are met.  
  • Guide and mentor less experienced artists. 
  • Work with technical directors to improve workflows. 

Qualifications 

  • 5 years of feature film or relevant industry experience (CG and/or Visual Effects).    
  • Strong knowledge of Maya and Houdini.  
  • Thorough knowledge of cloth and hair simulation.   
  • Excellent eye for motion and solid understanding of animation principles. 
  • Experience in setting up sim templates in collaboration with rigging, modeling and groom departments.  
  • Strong communication and technical skills.  

Additional information

  • British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $50 - $65 (The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
  • Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
  • Any and all WFH positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and work on Pacific Standard Time.
