There’s an exciting project that we’re working on at Zoic. It's a stop-motion animated feature that will continue into the Fall of 2025.
For this particular show a lot of the Zoic employees assigned to the project will be working within our Zoic Vancouver Studios, in the Gastown Area (close to Waterfront Station Downtown). Coming together as a team within our studio will help create the excitement and positive work environment we want for this special project.
Summary of Position
The Senior Texture Artist is responsible for the creation, delivery, and maintenance of high-level textures and texture templates for digital characters and creatures, organic assets, hard surface assets, and environments. This position works with others to provide technical and aesthetic assistance to achieve the desired result.
Job Functions
- Responsible for creating complex textures for a variety of surface qualities needed in the creation of high-quality CG characters and hard-surface models used in production.
- Proactively report issues and solutions for technical and artistic problems.
- Assess references and reproduce textures with great attention to detail and efficiency while translating concept art into photo-real surface properties.
- Help create and improve workflows, templates, specifications and the quality of textures through constant research and implementation of procedural workflows and consistent organized frameworks.
- Help maintain the texture library and training documentation as per guidance of the Asset Leads and Supervisor.
- Work closely with all disciplines to troubleshoot creative and technical issues.
- Perform basic modeling, look dev, and rendering tasks for texture development, as needed.
- Communicates effectively to production to consistently produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Assists with mentoring and training.
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ of CG/Visual Effects high-end texturing experience on theatrically released films.
- Strong knowledge of Maya, Mari, Substance Painter, Zbrush, and Photoshop.
- Knowledge of Substance Designer, Katana, Renderman, and Nuke.
- USD experience a plus.
- Great expertise in delivering high-end textures for photo-real characters and complex surfaces.
- Experience building a wide variety of templates based on procedural and non-destructive workflows.
- Experience in managing texture variants and different LODs.
- Strong knowledge of UVs and texture density.
- Knowledge of Unreal, Houdini, Karma, and Solaris, a plus.
- Background in visual arts/design with a strong understanding of form and color.
- Able to navigate complex pipelines.
- Proficiency working in a Linux environment.
- Extra asset skills such as modeling, look dev, and groom a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Additional information
- British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $45 - $65 (The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
- Candidates MUST be located in the the province of British Columbia. This Role requires the candidate to work onsite, within our Vancouver Studio in Gastown. (Some remote work may be considered)
- Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
- Any and all remote positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and work on Pacific Standard Time.
